Brilliant sprinting by County sprint record holder, Kimbely Baptiste, from Crawley earnt her an impressive double at the CAU and England championships at Manchester over the weekend.
Baptiste, whose season had been delayed until earlier in the month, looked to be in fine form as she repeated her “Sprint Double” of last year easing to victory in the final of the 100 metres on Saturday in 11.90s after clocking 11.86s when winning her heat. She was equally dominant over the 200m distance on Sunday cruising to victory in her heat in 24.20s and then streaking well clear of her rivals to take the final in 23.87s.
Baptiste was not the only Crawley medal winner at Manchester as in the 400 metres Niclas Baker set a PB when clocking 46.46s taking second place while, also over 400 metres, Holly Turner grabbed 4th place in 54.81s.
Holly’s younger brother George was equal third (bronze placing) in the pole vault clearing 4.85m and another fourth placing came in the shot put where another Crawley athlete Sam Heawood threw 15.72m.
Other finalists were Crawley’s Cara Anderson and Brighton & Hove’s Katie Garland.
Anderson finished fifth in the 800m in 2:12.29s, Massimo was sixth in the 200m in 22.03s and Garland eighth in the long jump leaping 5.58m.
The One-mile is still used at this meeting instead of the now regular 1500m and Brighton Phoenix’s George Mills ran a well-judged race to win the title, by nearly one second, from Jonathan Davies from Reading in 4: 09.68.
