Good Inter-county Results

Despite taking a severely weakened team to the South of England U15 and U20 Inter-county championships at Horspath, Oxford the Sussex athletes generally performed well amongst the twenty competing counties.

The Under 20 Men placed fifth in their group and the Women seventh while the Under 15 boys placed sixth but the girls really suffered through family holidays and struggled in 18th place.

Ironically the best Sussex performance came in the U15 girls group when Katie Bristowe romped away with the 75m hurdles in 11.43s having broken her own Sussex record with 11.26s in her heat and there were further Sussex victories in the U15 age group with Moyo Daramola winning an impressive 300 metres in 37.8s and Joe Smith continuing his fine form taking the 800m in 2:02.69s.

In the U20 1500m Stephen Ferroni timed his race to perfection winning after a great battle down the finishing straight from Daniel Mees from Peterborough by little more a metre 4:09.4s.

There were several second places in the U20 group notably in the 110m hurdles by Cameron Fillery with 14.55s, the pole vaults through George Turner who cleared 4.20m and Livvy Connor with 3.70m and Scott Staples in the javelin throw 56.36m.

Also in the U20s Emily Robinson placed fourth in the discus throw with 35.00m and fifth in the javelin throw with 33.09m while there was a double fourth for Sam Illesley in the U15 Discus and Hammer throws with 33.56m and 45.42m respectively.
