Brighton & Hove’s Bethany Close struck gold at the BUCS Indoor Championships on Saturday with a clear cut victory.
Close, running for Swansea University, who had won bronze in this event twelve month back and had taken silver in the BUCS outdoor championships in the summer stepped up to an impressive victory in a personal best time of 8.59 over Edinburgh University’s Olivia Walker, who clocked 8.71.
Close had run 8.71 when winning her heat and 8.68 in the semi-final.
Through to today’s final of the 1500m was club mate Ian Crowe-Wright, who was running for Birmingham and finished a comfortable third in 4:00.86 while Holly Turner (Crawley/Brighton University) won her heat of the 400m, running for Brighton University, in 58.30 an is through to the semi-finals.
