Sussex record holder Toby Harries (Brighton Phoenix) triumphed in the European U20 Championships at Grosseto, Italy.
It was only a couple of months back that the Brighton College sprinter returned from more than a year side lined through injury and there was doubt whether he could stand up to three rounds of competition. He proved unbeatable winning his heat of the 200 metres in 21.20s, which was the second fastest qualifying time.
In the semi-final he went one better and broke his own Sussex senior record by just one hundredth of a second in 20.89s and he again broke the record as he steamed to victory in the final over fellow British runner Jona Efoloko from Sale clocking 20.81s. to 20.92s.
Clubmate Archie Davis had certainly his best run of the season and probably his best result ever when he snatched fifth place in the final of the 1500m. In a painfully slow run race Davis stayed with the main group throughout and in a desperate dash for the finish he was less than one second behind race winner, fellow Brit Jake Heyward from Cardiff in 3:57.65s
