Amber Anning was the only Sussex winner at the “Sainsbury’s School Games” at Loughborough over the weekend.
Competing for the South West team, as all Sussex athletes were, the Brighton & Hove sprinter retained her unbeaten record for this year as she romped away to another impressive victory in the U17 300 metres in 39.50s.
There were a series of fine performances from the Sussex representatives with Lillie Franks from Crawley soaring over 1.69m to take second place in the high jump while Worthing’s Jordan Okanta also took a silver medal in the Ambulant 400m in 57.24s after placing eighth in the 100m in 12.74s.
Gradually recovering from the ankle injury he contracted at the International Schools match in July Edan Cole (Brighton & Hove) was below his best but his throw of 55.66m still earnt him third place.
Jack Harris from Lewes equalled his best clearance to date when finishing fourth in the pole vault with 4.00m while Vicki Pellett (East Grinstead) also filled fourth place in the hammer throw with 52.24s and Daniel-James Thomas (Eastbourne) took fifth place in the shot putt with 12.72m.
