Saturday 10th February saw the U11’s Sussex team competing at Surrey Sports Park in the Fun In Athletics Regional Sportshall Final.
Selected from the Horsham and Lancing Sportshall League matches, both the teams finished 6th overall.
In the girls’ team, Madeleine Way (Horsham) scored fantastic double first positions in the standing triple jump with 6.32m, and the speed bounce 62 in 20 seconds - both PBs. She also contributed to a second place as last leg in the Grand Prix relay team with Frankie De’Cruz and Pearl Pennington (Brighton) and Kyla Ball (Horsham), as well as a third place with Frankie in the 2 x 2 lap relay.
Other very notable performances were joint second for Bethany Tyrell (Crawley) in the speed bounce with 60 in 20 seconds, third for Rosa Howie (Phoenix) in the standing long jump with 2.10m, fourth for Mae Robinson (Haywards Heath) in the vertical jump with 44cm, and fifth for Pearl Pennington (Brighton) in the javelin with 13m. Pearl also gained a fourth in the 6 lap parlauf with Rosa.
The boys Grand Prix team went one better than the girls taking first place. The team, made up of Elliott Hanslow and Ali Moghul (Crawley), Dylan Moss and Louis Opoku (Brighton) won by more than a second.
Ali also went on to take 4th place in the standing long jump with 2.15m with Max Willemse (Brighton) just behind him in 5th with 2.11m. Charlie Bonwick Adams (Haywards Heath) took a great second place in the target throw with 12, then teamed up with his brother George to take very competitive fourth in the 6 lap parlauf. Theo Ramage (Horsham) scored 46 in the vertical jump for fifth place and the boys Under & Over relay team of James Taylor (Chichester) Harry Long and William Gosden (Horsham) Jack Twibell (Haywards Heath) also finished fourth.
