There were five winners for Sussex at last weekend’s prestigious Loughborough International meeting.
Seb Rodger (Eastbourne) took the 400m hurdles event for the England team in 50.06s with Joe Fuggle (Wadhurst), competing for the GB U20 team, finishing in fourth place in 52.79s.
Running for England, Spencer Thomas (Brighton Phoenix), had a fine battle with Loughborough’s James McMurray before winning in 1:49.38 while in the 1500m Adam Clarke from Hastings, who was not involved in the competing teams, stole their thunder with a fine 3:42.16.
In the GB Junior team Ben Hawkes (Worthing) made a splendid debut throwing the 6km hammer to victory with a fine effort of 70.52m while the fifth victory went to Holly Turner (Crawley) in race one of the 400 metres in 54.66s.
Running in the Loughborough vest, Saltdean’s Cameron Fillery took third place in 110m hurdles in 13.90m and County champion Chris Scott placed fourth in the Discus throw for England with 54.48m while Daniel James Thomas (Eastbourne), competing in the senior shot, although still U20, placed fifth with 15.64m.
There were sixth places for Phoenix athletes Archie Davis and Beth Kidger in the 1500m races. Archie clocked 3:43.71s and Beth, running for Wales, recorded 4:22.27s.
In the 100m Brynn Smith (Eastbourne) completing for the GB U20 team clocked a nifty 10.83s and in the High jump Brighton & Hove’s Katie Garland cleared 1.68m when placing eighth for Loughborough.
