Steyning AC's Olympic 50km race walker, Ian Richards, went to the European Masters Championships in Eraclea, Italy and achieved a remarkable five gold medals, three of which were individual.
First up on 6th September Richards won the M70 5000m title on the track, in a time of 27:08.70. Five days later on the roads he was the victor in the 10km race, finishing two minutes ahead of Italy's Ettorino Formentin, on a slightly short course in 49:32. Here Richards also led the GB M70 team to victory for his third gold medal.
Finally on 14th September Richards won his third individual gold in the 20km road walk, finishing in 1:55.37, again leading the team to gold.
