Three Sussex athletes gained top twenty placings in the National Cross-country championships at Leeds and three annexed titles at the National Young Athletes championship at Sheffield over the weekend.
Few Sussex athletes seem to have made the trip to Leeds and I have been unable to plough through all the results so would be interested to hear of any high placing, “Top 30”, runners at Leeds.
County champion Nicole Taylor (Tonbridge) had one of her best runs to date to finish an
excellent 12th in the senior women’s event while a couple of Hastings athletes were also on song.
In the U17 event Georgie Pool, who is also the County champion, had an excellent run to finish in 14th place and Lizzie Clarke had probably her best run to date to take 11th place in the U20 race.
Not far away at Sheffield Crawley’s Adam Lindo leapt a personal best of 6.97m to take the gold medal in the U17 long jump while in the same age group club mate Millie Noyce putt two metres further than outdoors to win the shot put tile with a super effort of 13.79m
There was a third title for Sussex when Emilie Okeden (Lewes) also cleared a pb in the U15 pole vault with 3.20m.
There were further medals for Sussex pole vaulters when Natasha Purchas (Crawley) cleared 3.70m for the silver medal in the U20 age group and Jack Harris (Lewes) also took silver in the U20 vault with a pb of 4.70.
There were near misses in the U20 200m for Eastbourne’s who clocked 21.77s for fourth place and considerably faster than he has ever run outdoor and much the same can be said for Crawley’s Grace Vans Agnew who finished fourth in the U20 400m in 58.61s following a semi-final run 56.53s.
