There were top ten places for a trio of Sussex runners in the South East Schools Inter-counties match at Newbury in damp to wet and muddy conditions on Saturday.

It was Olivia Wiseman (Bishop Luffa) who chalked up the highest placing of the day when she finished an excellent fourth in the Intermediate (U17) race and there a fine runs by Alex Richer (Millias) and Lois Dooley (Shoreham) in the same race placing 18th and 23rd respectively and Milly Dickinson (Kings Hove) 26th.

In the Junior (U15) girls' race Rebecca Losh (Shoreham) was also on fine form in fifth place with Olivia Toms (Bishop Luffa) 12th and Poppy Palmer-Malins (Ardingly) a good 18th out of the one hundred competitors and Ciara Muzio (Kings) 33rd.

The third sub top ten runner was Will Broom from Bishop Luffa who missed the Sussex Schools' Championship last month. Broom, who was the County Schools' Intermediate champion last year finished eighth in his first year in the Senior (U19) while (BHASVIC) athletes Joe Clayson and Jamie Boucher filled 16th and 17th places and Leo Stallard (Bishop Luffa), another who missed the County Schools event, placed 22nd.

Joseph Martin (Ardingly) led the Sussex challenge in the Intermediate boys' age group in 13th place with Max Brazier (Patcham) filling 18th place and another Bishop Luffa athlete, Ned Potter, close behind in 19th place and Ashley Williams (Forest) 26th.

In the Senior girls' race Imogen Matthews (Bishop Luffa) finished 15th to lead the Sussex runners home with Tia Forde (Hazelwick) placing 28th, Alex Cox-Rustbrigde (Bishop Luffa) 37th and Keira Aslett (William Parker) 39th.

Thomas James (Hazelwick) finished 14th in the Junior boys' event followed by fellow Hazelwick runner, Nick Hollan-Ellidge 28th.

Ethan Ward (Felpham) finished 30th and Ruben Sezen (St Andrews) 45th.

Despite the absence of several of the leading Sussex runners the team results were pretty good overall in what is quite a testing match.

Both the Junior girls' and Senior boys' teams achieved fourth team spot with the boys' “B” team placing sixth while both Intermediate teams were fifth and the Senior girls and Junior boys' filled seventh team spot - a pretty good result.
