Final Sussex League at Bexhill Down – British Indoor champs

7 February, 2019 By Sussex AA

The foreshortened Sussex Cross-country League for the 2018/19 season reaches its climax at Bexhill Down on Saturday.

The Sussex League originally started as a three race competition last century with a commitment to contest all three runs to be eligible for League medals. However for more than a couple of decades now we have held four fixtures with individuals only needing to contest three races although the team positions are decided over all four runs.

This year we lost the first fixture in October but because of the paucity of venues and dates it was not possible to replace it, so Saturday will be the final race and your only chance to complete three runs this season.

As usual the first league race with be the U13 Girls at 12.30, but the League races will be preceded by Under 11 races at noon.

63rd British Indoor Championships

It is expected that several Sussex athletes will be staying in this weekend at the British Indoor Championships at Birmingham, which are also the trials for the Europeans in March in Glasgow.  Sussex eyes will be on Southern 800 metre champion George Mills (Brighton Phoenix) Saltdean's Cameron Fillery who will be aiming to reach the final  of the 60m hurdles and Brighton & Hove’s Amber Anning in the 400m following her fine run in Vienna a couple of weeks back. As one of the youngest in the field she will do well to get through to the semi finals in what will be one of the most hotly contested events of the weekend.
