Evans wins at Peterborough – The Sidas at Chester. Sussex League at Goodwood.

13 October, 2017 By Sussex AA

After several weeks of Relay Racing it is the turn of the Sussex Cross-country League to open the head to head racing with the first of this season’s events at Goodwood on Saturday.

12.30 sees the start of the League events when the U13 Girls line up for their event and they will followed by the Boys then the U15s and U17 boys before the senior take to the stage with the Women, including U17s, at 14.00 and the Senior men at 14.35.

Before the League races are runs for U11s at 12.00.

If his duties allow Tom Evans from Lewes will certainly be the man to watch in the senior race.

Twenty five year old Evans is in the Welsh Guards, stationed at Pirbright, and has already laid down his credentials. In January he took second place in the Sussex Senior championship while a couple of weeks back he ran the fastest time in the Sussex Cross-country relay championships.

Last weekend Evans won the “Perkins Great Eastern Half-marathon at Peterborough.

This was only his second race over the distance and he won handsomely in 68:40s, a time that was only bettered by two Sussex runners last season.

Also showing good form last weekend were fellow Lewes athletes Lewis and Helen Sida who were in action at the Chester Marathon which involved a Masters International match.

Both were sporting England vests and Helen was first home in the W50 race in 3:08:43s while Lewis was a close second in the M45 in 2:38:59s.
