A number of Sussex athletes took part in the British Athletics Cross Challenge (inc. Euro Trials) at Sefton Park, Liverpool this weekend. And for most, it was a long trip well worth making competing against the very best British cross country talent on a challenging muddy course.
Without doubt, top billing went to Lewes AC's Tom Evans who continues to excel across distances ranging from 100 miles to 10km. Evans achieved a wonderful 6th place against a who’s who of British cross country running and booking his GB berth for the Euro cross country championships in Lisbon next month.
Other notable performances came from Jack Leitch (Worthing) who came 28th in the senior race (10th U23), Ian Crowe-Wright (Brighton & Hove) 49th, his club mate Will Cork in 104th and a hugely impressive 114th for Jacob Cann (Horsham Blue Star) who stepped up to the senior race running for Lancaster University even though he remains an U20 athlete. V50 Morris Tarragano (B&H) came in, in 185th place.
Competition in the senior ladies race was no less fierce with Martha Coyle (Brighton & Hove) continuing her excellent recent form with a superb 67th (22nd as an U23).
Tomer Tarragano (B&H) was the other Sussex top 10 finisher of the day placing an impressive 9th, in what was a stacked U20’s field. Leo Brewer (PHX) finished an excellent 22nd in his first year in this age group. And in the boys U17 race, Isaac Elam (HAS) had another fine run coming in 16th.
