European Team – Youth Development matches

30 June, 2016 By Sussex AA

The British team selectors have dealt Seb Rodger from Eastbourne a severe blow after his brilliant 400 metres hurdles victory at Birmingham on Sunday.

Although he was still just outside the Olympic standard he achieved the European standard and three hurdlers, all of who Seb beat have been nominated for the European Championships and Rodger has been left sidelined. As a mark of their incompetence they are reputed to have told Rodger that they had selected the hurdlers before Sunday’s race.

Other Sussex athletes Rob Mullett (Lewes), another Sussex winner from the weekend, has been selected for the steeplechase and Lee Emanuel from Hastings who finished fifth in the 1500 metres on Sunday has been included in the European team, as has Sussex domiciled discus thrower, Jade Lally who competes for Surrey.

Youth Development League

At last weekend’s Upper Age groups in the Youth Development League the Crawley Club took full advantage of a home fixture to romp away with their Premier 2 match scoring 734.5 points nearly two hundred clear of second placed Team Norfolk.

This apart it was a pretty sad weekend for Sussex teams with Brighton & Hove and Team Sussex finishing sixth and seventh respectively at Woking in South West One A. Brighton & Hove scored 328 points and Team Sussex, a combination of Lewes, Haywards and Heath and East Grinstead 244 points.

Horsham Blue Star in at Eltham also finished seventh in North East One with 324.5 points while in South West two Chichester finished fifth at Bournemouth.
