Entries Up For Road Relays

5 April, 2019 By Sussex AA

More teams than last year will be at the Sussex Road Relay Championships at Christ’s Hospital, Horsham, on Saturday.

A total of 244, an increase of 28, have entered the annual event, which this year will see the seniors running a new course.

Like 2018, athletes will run clockwise, and not anti-clockwise as previously, but this year it will be exactly 2 miles long and completely traffic free.

Brighton Phoenix will be hoping to match their clean sweep of team wins in both the senior men and women’s races. With athletes like Spencer Thomas, Archie Davis and Beth Kidger, who’s 2018 time of 10.57sec was the fastest senior female lap, they will be tough to beat.

James Westlake (Crawley) clocked the fastest men’s lap last year with 9:41 sec.

Bethany Cook, Bodyworks, will be hoping to do the double potentially leading her team to gold as well as placing first individually. Her winning time a year ago was 5.53sec.

Junior athletes (under 15 and under) run approximately 1 mile.

Brighton and Hove AC took gold in both U13 girls and boys in 2018.

Due to limitations on parking, organisers have asked athletes/spectators to car share where possible.

The first race, the U13 Girls, will start off the racing at 11.00.
