Lee Emanuel (Sheffield/Hasting) and Charlie Grice (Phoenix) set the fastest indoor 1500 metre times by British runners this season at the Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix at Birmingham on Saturday but again it was Emanuel who got the better of the head to head clash for the Sussex athletes.
In a strong international clash the British runners were never in the mix for medals as the pace was fast from the start with Kenyan and America runners battling it out at the front.
Emanuel, who had won the National 3,000m title the previous weekend used his superior stamina in the closing stages to fight his way towards the leaders and eventually snatched sixth place in a personal best time of 3:35.66s while Grice was also rewarded with a pb in ninth place in 3:39.44s.
The race was won by Vincent Kibet in 3:34.91s a timed he shared with fellow Kenyan Birthwell Birgen.
In the two mile event where Mo Farah set the World Record time in 8:03.44s Rob Mullett from Lewes clocked a personal best in 8:32.50s in ninth place.
