The sun shone down at K2 as the county’s top under 13 club athletes battled for glory in the Sussex league final.
There were some stunning performances and many personal bests in what was, for most of the youngsters, the last major event of the season.
Horsham’s Ella Hannyngton soared to new heights as she broke both the league and county records in high jump with a wonderful leap of 1.58m.
This elevated her to the top of the UK U13 rankings. The talented multi eventer also won the hurdles in a time of 11.8 seconds. Ella's club mate Abigail McPherson jumped a five centimetres PB to win the B high jump with another fine effort of 1.48m.
Crawley’s Ornelia Orfenov leapt 4.68m to take the long jump and Elizabeth Korczak (Brighton & Hove) threw 31.13m - nearly two metres further than her previous best to win the javelin. Her teammate Lois Dooley won the 1000m in 3:18.3, which places her fifth in the UK rankings this year.
Crawley’s Adam Lindo continued his winning streak with victories in both the 75m (10.0) and the long jump (5.09m). Brighton’s Alex Pert won both the javelin (29.23m) and discus (22.36m).
His teammate Joshua Hartnett dominated the 150m, winning in a speedy 19.1 seconds and Adam Firsht reinforced his position at the top of the Sussex 600m rankings with a 1.42.5 victory.
Crawley won three out of the four relays and their overall depth meant they comfortably took the title from Brighton and Hove, the reigning champions for the past three years, scoring a total of 385.5 points to Brighton’s 322.5 and Horsham Blue Stars 315.5.
Congratulations are also due to Haywards Heath Harriers who won the Plate Cup
