Elaine Carter

29 January, 2020 By Reg Hook

We very much regret to report the death on 24th January of Elaine Carter, the wife of Sussex Olympian and former A.A.A Chairman, Chris Carter, following a lengthy illness.

Elaine, who was 74, was also the mother of former English Schools and British Junior champion, and coach, Richard and Andrew.

She was for many years the leading fundraiser for athletics in the Brighton Area and was secretary of the Brighton Supporters Association for more than a decade.

Elaine and Chris had met while at Steyning Grammar when she was 14 and Chris 16.

The funeral will be held on Thursday 6th February at 2.00pm at St Peter’s Church, Upper Beeding  BN44 3HD.

Afterwards Chris and the boys invite everyone to join them in the Gladys Bevan Hall, next door to the church, for refreshments.

Parking is limited near the church - please use surrounding roads such as Deacons Way or Pepperscoombe Lane.

They are requesting no flowers. Donations can be made to The Friends of St Botolphs Church at the address below. Elaine was a committee member and any money raised will go to the conservation of this ancient church.

Please dress to celebrate Elaine's wonderful life, no black clothing.

Donations can be sent to:
Honorary Secretary, Friends of St Botolphs Church, 35 Saltings Way, Upper Beeding, BN44 3JH.
