Eastbourne Double Medallists at SEAA Cross Country Relays

22 October, 2024 By Kate Matthews

Young endurance athletes from Eastbourne enjoyed success at the SEAA Cross Country Relays at the weekend.

The coastal club were one of very few Sussex clubs to send teams to the event at Wormwood Scrubs.

They were rewarded for this coming away with an under 17 women’s team gold and silver in the under 15 boys.

Raya Petrova ran the first leg, clocking 10.31.29 and third fastest overall. Taking over was Freda Pearce (10.55.80) followed by Daisy Connor in 10.31.79.

In the under 15 boys Fin Lumber Fry got off to a flying start in 6.46.75 followed by George Armstrong Smith in 6.53.18 and Byron Roberts on third in 6.48.00.

Stephanie Shaw ran a blinding anchor leg for Crawley AC clocking 10.26 – the fastest under 20 woman on the day. The team placed 4th , missing out on a medal by eight seconds.

Crawley AC also had an under 15 girls’ team competing who placed fifth, whilst Brighton & Hove sent just one team to compete in the under 17 men’s race coming in seventh place.

Congratulations to all Sussex athletes that took part.
