Archie Davis (Brighton Phoenix) has been named in the second tranche of athletes to compete in the 1500 metres at the World Junior championships at Bydgoszcz later this month.
Davis clocked a personal best of 3:43.81s in Denmark ten days ago, just short of the qualifying standard but this has proved good enough to be included in the British team.
He will be due to run his heat on the 19th.
Crawley Women fourth
Like their men’s team on Saturday the Crawley women’s National League team produced a much improved performance at their Division One match at Lee Valley on Sunday.
After finishing last in their opening match they improved to fourth in their latest encounter but this fine effort has not removed them completely from the relegation zone.
They are now lying in sixth place on six points with two other teams and are just 6.5 match points ahead of Cardiff so there is still all to play for in the next month’s final match.
Winners were again few and far between though the pole vaulters turned up trumps with Livvy Connor clearing 3.60m to win the “A” vault and Tamsin Campbell 3.40m to take the “B” vault.
Sprinter Kimbely Baptiste was just outside her personal best when winning the 200m in 24.58s after being squeezed into fourth place in the 100m in 12.39s.
There was a “B” win in the long jump for Abby Beswick when she leapt 5.48m after Elise Lovell had finished second in the “B” events with 5.79m and Lovell also won the “B” 400m hurdles in 64.32s and third place in the 100m hurdles in 14.40s.
There was a second place in the javelin throw for all rounder Jo Rowland with 41.25m and a third place in the 400m for Holly Turner in season’s best of 56.70s.
Premier Division
In the Premier Division Brighton & Hove’s Bethany Close, runner for Swansea, notched up her second fastest time to date when she had a neck and neck battle with Shaftesbury’s Phillipa Lowe when she clocked 58.08s just 1/100th of a second behind the winner
