Cross Country Seasons Starts This Weekend

11 October, 2019 By Kate Matthews

The Cross-country season really opens with a bang this weekend when the first of this season’s Sussex Cross-country League events are held at Goodwood on Saturday.

The Goodwood course is only available for the first few weeks of the season so in recent years the “First” races of the season are held over the Downs at Goodwood.

The Under 13 girls are always first up at 12.30 while the Senior Men and Masters race tops the afternoon’s racing at 2.35.

Before the League races get underway there will be races for U11 Girls and Boys starting at noon.

Harries

Brighton Phoenix’s Toby Harries did get a run in the British 4 x 400m relay at the World Championships at Doha.

Originally the team, which Harries was not a member, did not qualify for the final but a disqualification promoted Great Britain into the final and Harries came into the squad to run the third leg.  Primarily a 200 metres runner Harries, who had finished fifth in the National 400m championship, ran his heart out and was slowing at the finish but was not able to get the baton to Newham’s Rabah Yousif who was too eager to race.

It was disappointing for The Phoenix runner and the British team but good experience for both Harries and Yousif who was running the anchor leg for the first time in a Major Championship.
