After just a one year sojourn in Division two of the UK Women’s the Crawley Women’s League made a quick return to Division One at Scotstoun, Glasgow on Sunday.
Unfortunately they do not return as Division two champions as after a tense five hour competition they had to give second best to Harrow who has shared the top sport with Crawley at the start of the day’s battle.
Harrow finished the day with 207.5 points to the Crawley team’s 202 points to top the League with 23 points to Crawley’s 22 but the Sussex club did finish the season with 839 match points to Harrow’s 802. Havering A.C were third with 15 league points while Glasgow, the home club, scored 13 points to fill fourth League place.
As in the British Athletics League, where the Crawley men were competing on Saturday, winners were hard to come by and indeed at Glasgow Crawley managed just one A winner and that was sprinter Kim Baptiste who streaked to victory in the 200m in 24.23s after earlier placing third in the 100m in 12.10s.
Livvy Connor, the English Schools Senior (U19) pole vault champion, notched up two second places soaring over 3.60m in the pole vault and then bounding out to 10.99m in the triple jump.
There was another second place in the 800m where Hannah Brooks, from Surrey, clocked 2:11.27s and she also took third place in the 400m in 59.99s.
Fiona Clark also gained a third place when clocking 10:38.18s in the 3,000 metres while Lotte Hoare threw 43.85m to take third place in the hammer throw and in this event Laura Duke throw 41.89m to win the “B” event.
Team manager Helen Reynolds said “The Crawley girls were brilliant on Sunday. Not only did they do well in their main events, they also helped to fill the gaps that we had. It was a long day, but we achieved our ultimate aim - promotion back to division one.”
