The Crawley team won their home match in Division one of the Southern Athletics League from the strong Tonbridge club and after two matches are settled at the top of the League.
Resting several of their British League athletes in preparation for the second British League match at Bedford next weekend Crawley still dominated the match scoring 227 points.
They finished some fifty points clear of Tonbridge’s 176 points with Colchester on163 and Milton Keynes on 159.
George Grainger turned in a fine hurdles double clocking 16.0s for the 110m high hurdles and 56.6s to win the 400m hurdles.
Although little brother James missed the match Matt Lasis still showed Crawley domination in the throws winning the shot putt with 12.72m the discus throw with 41.50m and the hammer throw with 59.33m and this hammer effort proved to be the best performance of the match.
Crawley also had the best performance of the match in the women’s events when Beth Crocker set a personal best and a Schools National standard when winning the long jump with 5.62m.
The Crawley sprinters were also in winning form with Holly Turner winning the 100m in a nippy 12.4s and the 400m in 57.4s while Orla Brothers, who is only in her first year in the U17 age group, took the 200m in a 25.5s which was a Schools standard.
A few miles away at Broadbridge Heath the Horsham Blue Star team were finishing second in their Division 3 SW match scoring 212 points to Bracknell’s 241.5. They were only six points clear of Hercules/Wimbledon with Team Kennet and Aldershot in fourth and fifth team places.
Again it was the women sprinters who starred with Molly Adams again in great form to win the 100m in 12.6s and another Schools standard when winning the 200m in 25.8s while Chloe Billingham set a personal best and a Schools standard when clearing 3.35m to win the pole vault.
Another sprinter, Abby Beswick shone when the East Grinstead team had undertaken the long trip to Poole on Saturday for their Division 3 SW match.
Beswick notched up three School standard performances as her team finished fourth of the five competing clubs winning the 100m in 12.4s, the 200m in 25.1s and the long jump with 5.46m
