There were several Top Ten places for Sussex teams in the South of England Road Relay championships in rain and wind at the Crystal Place on Sunday, including a bronze medal for the Crawley U13 Girls team.
At the end of the afternoon both the Brighton & Hove and Brighton Phoenix teams qualified for a place in the English Road Relay championships Finals at Sutton Park next month.
Brighton & Hove finished 13th in 1:51:13 while the Phoenix team placed 22nd in 1:53:59.
In the Senior women's race the Hastings team topped the Sussex entries finishing an excellent 11th after a good tussle with Arena 80 who placed 12th just five seconds behind..
It was at the beginning of the days' racing that the Crawley U13 girl’s team of Surrey twins Charlotte and Lauren Wormley and Annie Harvey took a brilliant third place, while in the same event the Brighton & Hove team also did well to finish in tenth team spot.
In the Boy’s race Crawley filled 26th place and Brighton & Hove and Hove 33rd.
Crawley also led the Sussex teams in the U15 age boy’s age group placing an excellent 16th to Brighton & Hove’s 20th place but in the girl’s race Brighton & Hove provided the first three Sussex teams to finish with their “A” team in 20th place, the “B” team 28th and their “C” team 35th ahead of Crawley’s 39th place.
There was a cracking run in the U17 boy’s event where Hastings finished seventh and George Pool (Hastings) clocked the fastest lap of the day in 13.05s and Crawley finished 14th while the Brighton & Hove women finished in 18th place in their race.
In the Masters races Brighton & Hove led the Sussex team’s home in both the M40 and M50 events placing seventh in the M40 ahead of Hastings’s 24th place while in the M50 they missed the medals by just ten second finishing fourth with Hastings Runners in 18th place.
