The Crawley Women head north this weekend to confirm promotion back to Division one of the U.K.Womens Track and Field League.
After a good start to the season, when they won their first match, they placed third at the second match but still remain at the top of the league though they share this spot with Harrow both having 15 points. Fortunately Crawley have fifty more match points than their rivals.
The top two clubs gain promotion and as they are five points clear of Havering, the third placed team, only a disaster could prevent Crawley returning to Division One.
The match is at Scotstoun near Glasgow and the Crawley girls will be flying from Heathrow early Saturday morning and will return to Gatwick at 10.00.
“we are certainly not taking any chances” said team manager and 400/800m runner, Helen Reynolds we are taking a pretty strong team” Sprinter Kim Baptiste, who only just missed a medal at last weekend’s A.A.A Championships, pole vaulter Livvy Connor, who won a bronze last weekend and middle distance runner Fiona Clark who placed fifth in the 5,000m are included in the line up.
The men, also in Division two of the British Athletic League, have no such pressure as they are lying fourth in their Division, a never the less good position, and they are five points adrift of possible promotion.
They have the comparatively gentle drive to Kingsmeadow at Richmond in Surrey for their match and are not expecting to do the impossible and match their women’s bid for promotion though they will be taking a strong team.
