Crawley AC made it 8 years in a row winning the Under 15 Sussex League Final at Withdean Stadium in Brighton on Friday evening.
It was closer than in previous years with only 27 points between Crawley on 480 and Brighton and Hove on 453. Brighton and Hove had won the boys group by 3 points where Crawley dominated in the girls winning by 30.
There were many impressive performances throughout the warm evening, with Crawley’s Lauren Wormley breaking her sister, Charlotte’s 1500m record, in a time of 4:46.0. Charlotte, who won the 800m on the night, will have to settle with being the holder of the 800m record, which she set back in May.
Jacob Nimmo (Craw) would have gone home elated after winning his 100m, 200m, 80mH (B string) in which he ran a PB of 12.3s, as well as being part of the top placing 4 x 100m relay.
Brighton and Hove’s Ethan White did the double in the discus and hammer, throwing a 33.12m in this discipline. Team-mate Isaac Kofi Obeng clocked a PB of 41.5s in the 300m.
Crawley well and truly dominated the distance races winning all of the A and B strings in both the 800m and 1500m. Luke Newton (2:12.0) in the A string 800m, Thomas Fox (2:16.4) in the B race and Nick Hollan-Ellidge (4:41.3) A string 1500m, Miles Waterworth (4:47.1) in the B.
Horsham Blue Stars’ athlete, Alina Hillicks, was in fine form taking the top spots in the discus and hammer, where she threw a PB of 26.97m.
The girls’ javelin was dominated by Brighton and Hove AC with Rachael Wall (34.38m) winning the A and Madeleine Badruzaman (22.69m) the B.
Haulwen Davies, Worthing, enjoyed a strong win the 200m in a PB time of 27.0s. She had also won the pole vault earlier on in the evening.
The Final is a lovely way to end a long and successful track and field season. Big thanks to Elaine Harrod, Phil Baker and Janis Long for all their hard work in organising the leagues and final across the summer.
