After an afternoon long battle the Crawley Athletic Club’s women’s team were beaten by just one point in their UKWL Division two match at Stevenage on Sunday.
After winning the season’s first match at Wigan last month the Crawley women were faced by a determined Sale team, who were runners up in the first match, and it was the Lancashire club that eventually came out on top scoring 194 points to Crawley’s 193 points with Herts Phoenix back in third place with 165 and Newham fourth with 160 points.
The Crawley Club however is still top of the League with 15 points, the same as Sale, but holds the number one position as they have 435 match points to Sale’s 409.
Kimbeley Baptiste notched up another sprint double clocking 11.68 and 24.14s with Holly Turner winning the “B” 100 m in 12.51s and then taking second place in the 400m in 57.02s and shared in the 4 x 400m relay team’s victory along with Baptiste, Sophie Dowle and Elise Lovell in a nifty 3:55.43. This victory came only minutes after Baptiste, Turner and Lovell, along with Jessica Cook finished second in the sprint relay in 49.46s.
Lillie Franks, who is still an U20 performer shared first place in the high jump in 1.70m and following her middle distance double in the first match Crawley’s Surrey athlete, Hannah Brooks had to settle for second place behind Havering’s Laura Deadman, in both the 1500 and 3000m races in 4:31.87s and 9:46.48s respectively.
