Chris Smith

30 October, 2020 By Reg Hook

It is with great regret that we have to report the loss of Haywards Heath cross-country runner Chris Smith.

Chris, a member of the British Fell and Mountain Running teams, was on holiday near Invervar, Perthshire in Scotland with his family and went out for an eleven mile run including three local peaks and did not returned. He was familiar with the mountains was expecting to be back In a couple hours.

He was 43 and leaves a wife, Lindsay, and two young children.

He moved to Haywards Heath several years back and would frequently run in the Sussex Cross-country League events, winning several races and indeed the League title in 2017 the year that he also won the England Mountain Running Championship. He also helped the British Mountain team to the bronze medals in the European Mountain running Championships in Arco in Italy.

Although he has lived in Sussex for several years he still retained his Middlesex qualification but was a well-respected member of the Sussex Cross-country fraternity and the Haywards Heath Club.

All of our thoughts are with his family at this very sad time.
