Cake, champagne and a lap of honour marked an evening of celebrations for Sussex Olympic medal winner Amber Anning.
Brighton and Hove AC hosted the evening at the Withdean Stadium, and were joined by athletes and supporters from across the county.
These included Sussex AA president Phil Baker and Brighton & Hove AC president (and mum) Melanie Anning.
Amber, who first started athletics in the county when she was nine, had a phenomenal Olympics in Paris, breaking three British records and winning two bronze medals.
The 23-year-old clocked 49.29 in the 400m final, placing 5th and taking Christine Ohuruogu’s 11-year-old 400m British record. Of course, it was also a Sussex AA record.
She also anchored the bronze medal-winning 4 x400m mixed and women’s relay teams.
Her achievements at the Stade de France were groundbreaking for both Brighton & Hove AC and Sussex.
The celebrations began with champagne and cake in the clubhouse. Amber then made her way to the track, where she led
athletes, old and young, on a lap of honour.
After this, while the crowds gathered in the stands, both Amber and Melanie spoke about their experiences in Paris before a Q&A session followed by photographs and autograph signing.
Amber will now be taking some time off to rest before heading back to train in America.
She was not the only Sussex AA medallist in Paris. Brighton Phoenix’s Toby Harries also scooped an amazing bronze in the 4 x 400m relay.
Both are an inspiration for everyone in the sport and make the county very proud.
