Livvy Connor from Lewes added a second bronze medal to the Sussex tally at the BUCS championships at Bedford on Monday.

Competing for Birmingham in the pole vault Connor cleared 3.70m while Horsham Blue Star’s Jade Brewster, competing for Southampton filled fourth place clearing 3.60m.

Elise Lovell from Hastings who won the bronze medal in the long jump on Sunday reached the final of the 100m hurdles when taking third place in her heat in 14.42s but improved to 14.16s in the final which gave her sixth place.

There was another sixth place in the 1500m final when Ian Crowe-Wright from Brighton & Hove (Birmingham) clocked a personal best time of 3:50.92s after finishing third in his semi-final in 3:51.10s, which was also the fastest he had ever run.

Holly Turner (Crawley/Brighton U) was squeezed into fourth place in her semi-final of the 400 metres but did not make the final while fellow Crawley athlete Charles Baldwin, competing for St Mary’s, was also squeezed out of a final when he finished third in 800m semi-finals in 1:57.66s.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE

Chichester made it three wins for Sussex in the first round of the Lower Age Groups matches of the YDL when they won a close home match at Portsmouth by scoring 486 points to Winchester’s 479. The Woking, Walton and Bournemouth clubs all topped 400 points in third, fourth and fifth place.

Brighton & Hove and Crawley hade both won their matches the previous weekend.

On Sunday there was a tentative start for the Sussex teams in the Upper (U17 & U20) Age Group matches.

In the tough Premier 1 Division a depleted Crawley team, who had to travel to Norwich for their match, scored 387 points, which was less than half of Blackheath’s winning total.

In Division One C at Dartford where the combined Team Sussex squad were in action alongside Horsham Blue Star finished third and fourth respectively behind match winners Croydon, who scored 623 points, with Team Sussex on 396 and Horsham 317 points.

The Div One B, results where Brighton & Hove were in action, is not to hand at the moment.
