Sussex road runner Ian Leitch (Brighton Phoenix) broke the M45 British Marathon record when he had the best run of his life to finish ninth in the British Olympic Trials for the Tokyo Olympics in Kew Gardens in London on Friday.
Clocking 2:17:26s finished less than five minutes away from a top three placing and at the age of 45s chopped more than one minute off his personal best, and break the record for the Over 45 age group.
Former Sussex cross country champion Tom Evans (Lewes) who was hoping for a place in the top six had problems and did not complete the course.
