Brilliant running from Brighton & Hove’s Amber Anning won her a bronze medal in the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas.
Anning fought her way into the final with a composed second place in her 400m heat in 54.42s and she lined up as one of the youngest of the competitors.
Drawn in lane two Anning ran a superb race against two talented Australians and actually entered the home straight alongside Bendere Obaya who powered to the finish overhauling fellow Aussie Ella Connolly, who was well clear as they entered the finishing straight to win in 52.69s to Connolly’s 52.72s.
Sixteen year old Anning was well clear of the rest of the field to finish third in 53.68s a new Sussex senior record and the fastest British 16 year 400 metre time since 1984.
