Brighton & Hove win YDL match. – – Crawley and Horsham UPDATE`

The Brighton & Hove Athletic Club romped to a run-a-way win in the second of this season’s Youth Development  League matches  at Withdean on Saturday.

Competing in the East One division of the Lower Age Group League the home club led the match virtually from the start to score 596 points and record their second win of the season.

After a great battle with the Medway & Maidstone club Lewes took second place with 486 points, just three points clear of the Kent Club while Basildon filled fourth, of the six competing clubs with 438 points.

Currently ranked  number two in the Country Lewes’s Anouska Fairhurst probably produced the best performance of the afternoon when she won the U15 javelin throw with 35.49m. Brighton & Hove’s Elizabeth Korczak, who is currently ranked fifth in the Country placed second with 34.90m but both throws were well down on their season’s bests with the strong and blustery wind causing them problems.

Brighton & Hove’s Luke Twigger, who like Fairhurst is in his first year in the age group, was also troubled by the wind and his winning throw of 34.64m was also several metres below his best but club mate, Ruby Anning brushed the conditions aside as she scored a fine sprint double with an English Schools standard run of 12.6s in the 100 metres and a nifty 26.5s run in the 200 metres.

Division West One

Following their first round victory in April Crawley were squeezed into second place of their Division One West match at Aldershot.

Guildford & Godalming scored 593 points to the Crawley Club’s 553 points with Horsham Blue Star repeating their third team placing of the seven competing clubs with 491 points.

Crawley’s Adam Lindo had another fine Long jump winning with 5.80m and took second place in both the high jump with 1.70m and the Shot putt with 10.45m while Horsham’s Seb Wallace finished second in the Long jump with 5.77m third in the High jump with 1.60m came into his own in 80m hurdles in 12.1s.

Abigail Packham doubled up with English School's standards when winning the 75m hurdles in 11.6s and the High jump clearing 1.57m while club mate Poppy Oliver scored a sprint double with 13.6s and 26.8s as well as winning the “B” hurdles in 12.4s.

Horsham’s Cleo Tomlinson also achieved a Schools standard when winning the long jump with 5.07m and she also won the “B” High jump clearing 1.40m and took second place in the 300m in

Division East two

At the Hasting Club’s home match, in East Two, Bexley won the match with 614.5 points  to Newham’s 596 and Hastings in third place with 466.5 points while East Grinstead with 388 points were fourth and Worthing fifth with 375 points.

Worthing’s Tom Ridley was probably the Sussex star at this fixture with an impressive U15 Hat trick of victories. In the 200 metres he clocked 26.5s he won the 300m in 38.4sec and then leapt 1.75m to win the high jump.

The home club’s Maya Ramnarine ran a personal best in the U15 800m to win in 2:23.3s.

Division West Two

Chichester travelled to Bournemouth for the West Two match but in a close match were squeezed into fifth place scoring 384 point to the winning Walton team’s 425.

We are still awaiting the publication of the Crawley, West One results, from Aldershot.
