The Brighton & Hove club will be the only Sussex team in the National 12 stage relay at Sutton Park Birmingham on Saturday. A couple of weeks back they chalked up a fine eleventh place in the South of England Championships to qualify for a place in the National final but the clash with this weekend’s Brighton Marathon/10km events will weaken the team.
They will also be missing a couple of their top athletes who are on altitude training but team manager Howard Bristow said “Still the important thing is to keep the relays a club tradition by attending year on year and everyone in the team will step up to the occasion”
Seventy five teams are entered for the event but with a reduced squad a place in the top half of the field will be a considerable achievement.
Thousands of Road Runners/Joggers will be heading to Brighton on Sunday for the running of the Brighton Marathon.
This will be preceded by a 10km race starting at 8.30 on the London Road near Tongdean Lane while 45 minutes later the Elite Marathon field will start at the same place and at the same time the Main race will be starting in Preston Park.
