Antrim Half-marathon
Ross Skelton (HY Runners) was the third British runner to finish in the Classy Antrim Half Marathon on Sunday.
Ross finished eighth overall behind two British runners and a group of Kenyan, Ethiopian and Irish runners and he removed nearly one minute from his previous best time clocking 63:39s.
This run lifted him to second fastest on the Sussex “All-time” list and takes him into the British Top Ten for his year.
Runaway team Victory for Crawley in National League
The Crawley senior team ended their National League season with a dominating team victory in the South Division at Bournemouth’s Kings Park at the weekend.
Scoring 415.8 points, they scored nearly twice as many as the home team, who scored 220.8 with Basingstoke on 216 and Tonbridge well adrift on 123.2 points.
Some of the teams struggled to get anywhere near a full complement of athletes, and many events could muster a single athlete, and quite a few “B” events did not attract any athletes.
The Crawley success was partly due to fielding at least one athlete in most events, and some Crawley athletes notched up three victories. They dominated both the men’s and women’s sprints, with Holly Turner achieving victories in the women’s 100m, 200m and 400m and also running in both the winning sprint and 4 x 400m relay teams.
Justin Tarrant won three jumps, plus a “B” shot put, while team manager Jo Rowland won both shot put and javelin throws and the 100m hurdles plus the “B” high jump.
The baby of the team Yasmin Kashdan, who is still in the U17 age group, had to run the 1,500m solo but still turned in a very respectable time of 4:45.6s.
Crawley Open
Despite the troublesome north easterly wind, there was good support for the annual Crawley Open meeting at K2 last weekend and many top performances.
Morgan Hayward, who had notched up a jumps double in the National League at Bournemouth the day before, repeated the medicine with 6.40m in the long jump (a windy 6.60m at Bournemouth), and he bettered his mark at Bournemouth in the triple jump with 14.78m at K2.
Joseph Watson (Lewes) notched up a throws double with 40.45m and 15.39m respectively to win the discus and shot events while in the sprints Eastbourne’s Bryn Smith, won both events with clockings of 10.88s and 22.27s.
Under challenging conditions, Hari Brogan (Brighton & Hove), who is still in the U20 group, cleared 1.95m to win the high jump. Meanwhile, his clubmate Dulcie Yelling was again over 44 metres in the U15 javelin throw with 44.46m and is actually the fourth-ranked British thrower of All-time in her U15 age group.
European Combined Events Challenge.
Bradley Eisnor notched up his second-best Decathlon score at the European Combined Events challenge at Manchester at the weekend. Placing fourth, he totalled 6745 points, just 100 points shy of his best that he had set earlier this season. He clocked 11.63 for the 100m - long jumped 5.60m, put the shot 11.76m, high jumped 1.95m, ran 400m in 50.49s, 110mH in a5.51s, threw the discus 34.22m, pole vaulted 3.72m, launched the javelin out to 55.11m and ended with the 1500m clocking 4:56.31s.
