The opening Division 2, 3 and 4 fixture in this year’s British Athletics League (BAL) was cancelled earlier this week due to a shortage of officials. The combined match was due to take place at Bedford on Sunday.
Dean Hardman, the chairman of BAL said: “Unfortunately, despite best efforts, it became apparent last week that we were dangerously low on officials who had agreed to officiate the meeting.”
This was inevitable as the event clashed with county championships. Sussex had never supported the scheduling of BAL on the same weekend. The county immediately made the decision to enable any athlete who now wanted to compete in this weekend's championships to have a spot, if there was space.
Not including the last minute additions, 589 people have entered 895 events over the two days, with several defending champions in the mix, particularly in the younger age groups.
However, we are short of helpers and officials. If you can support the event at K2, Crawley for a couple of hours on either day, please contact meeting manager Shelley Baker by EMAIL.
