Arena 80 partner with Sussex AA to support young athletes with new grant

6 October, 2021 By Melanie Anning

Sussex AA is delighted to announce details of the Arena 80 AC Young Athlete Grant. From 2021 an award of up to £250 will be presented to talented young athletes, who represent a Sussex AA affiliated club, to whom a grant will make an essential difference.

Arena 80 AC has committed £500 per year and this is being matched by the county. We also ask affiliated clubs to contribute towards the grants to support their athletes' development.

Who is eligible to apply?

Applications are invited from individuals aged 14 – 18, who are in full-time education, who are Sussex born or have been resident in the county for more than nine months. The athletes must be members of an athletic club affiliated to Sussex AA.

Where an applicant is aged under 18 at the time of application, the application must be submitted on their behalf by a parent, carer, coach or club official.

The application should clearly demonstrate the difference that the grant will make to that individual’s sporting development and how it will be used to contribute to his/her progression. For example, the grant could be used to fund additional training, transport, treatment costs (sports injury, physiotherapy) or go towards specialised kit, etc.

When to apply and when decisions are made?

Grants will be awarded three times a year in October, February and May. The closing date for applications will be the first day of the respective months. However, we have extended this first round of applications to Friday 15th October. Applications must be submitted by midnight on the closing day. Late applications will not be accepted. Decisions will be made by the end of the month.

The total fund available is £1,000 per year to be spread across the recipients. Applications will be considered by a sub-group of the Sussex AA Development Committee and the most deserving athletes will be selected for funding. All applicants will be contacted with the outcome. Decisions are final and there will be no system of appeal.

Where an individual is below the age of 18, correspondence will be directed to the person applying on his/her behalf.
