T
om Evans from Lewes had another fine run in Poland at the weekend and improved his Sussex half-marathon record.
The former Sussex senior cross-country champion has really chosen the wrong time to make a play for the big time, as competitive road races are few and far between without going abroad, but when he goes, he is doing very well.
Evans became the first Sussex runner to crack 64 minutes for the Half-marathon when he travelled to the Antrim Coast race early last month and his run there attracted an invitation for the British team for the World Half marathon championship at Gdynia in Poland last Saturday.
He was not able to mix it at the head of the field yet but had an excellent run to finish 64th out of a finishing field of the World’s top 117 finishers in 63:15s, the fifth British runner home, which removed one second from his earlier record.
It is looking very unlikely that Evans will have the chance to regain his Sussex Cross Country title on the first Saturday of the New Year, as no plans have been made to hold County Championships at the moment.
