The Crawley men have a assured themselves of another season in Division two of the British Athletics League, with another solid third place at Kingston on Saturday. While a depleted women’s team look likely to slip out of Division one in the UKWAL, following their last place at Stevenage.
After Matt Lasis had returned to competition at the previous match, younger brother James followed the lead and both were in action after missing the last couple of seasons.
James returned in fine form and the two of them scored maximum points in the discus and hammer events.
James threw 45.84m and 53.94m respectively to win the “A,” throws with Matt throwing 39.07m and 53.55m to win the “B” events and Matt also took third place in the “B” shot put with 12.17m after Sam Heawood had won the “A” put with a fine Club Record performance of 16.96m.
The meeting had started well with Sam Shore finishing second in the opening track event, the 400m hurdles, in 55.18s while Ben Okeiyi, who will be completing at the English Schools championships next weekend, set a new PB when winning the “B” race in 56.46s.
There was also a fine victory in the 400m flat where Matt Overall is enjoying his best season to date with a crisp 48.32s.
Crawley are now fourth in the League table and cannot be caught by any teams below them.
There were not any winners for the Crawley women’s team but they returned several promising performances, with Hannah Brooks clocking 2:08.13 to take second place in the 800m and Holly Turner placing second in the 400m in 55.94s. Meanwhile Jessica Lambert, another in action at the English Schools this weekend, placed third in the 400m hurdles in 61.61s.
On the day Crawley filled bottom position and are placed seventh in the League table.
