Another Busy Weekend.

17 May, 2018 By Sussex AA

Following last weekend’s successful County championships where twelve Championships Best Performances were set and it looks like 39 English Schools Standards were achieved, it is back to League athletics this weekend and the Loughborough International meeting.

The Loughborough match is on Sunday and Sussex have two athletes in the GB Junior team as well as several athletes in invitation events.

Twice last year Brighton & Hove’s Amber Anning had to decline invitations for the junior squad but on Sunday she will be racing over 200 metres and competing in the sprint relay team.

Scott Staples (Crawley) who has been throwing the javelin extremely well this season and heads the British U20 Rankings will be aiming to maintain his form and maybe break the Sussex record again.

Both these athletes were among the records breakers at last weekend’s championships.

League Activity

League activity this weekend means the Sussex athletes will be spread far and wide this weekend with the Lower Age Group of Southern Young Athletes Group on Saturday and the Southern Athletics League, for senior athletes, on Sunday.

There are many matches in Sussex in the various Divisions with Lewes welcoming Brighton & Hove amongst the visitors and Lewes while Horsham welcome Chichester to Broadbridge Heath on Saturday.

The Horsham Blue Star club are also hosts on Sunday where they hold a double SAL match with Brighton & Hove and Chichester amongst the visitors.

Crawley are also holding a Division one home match on Sunday.
