For the first weekend since the County Championships back in early May there seems to be let up in the athletic activity this weekend.
The major event, apart from the Anniversary Games/Diamond League at the Olympic Stadium, is the final round of the Upper Age group of the Youth Development League on Sunday.
Charlie Grice (Brighton Phoenix) has decided not to contest the “Emsley Carr Mile” but Sussex will still have an interest in this event as Lee Emanuel from Hastings is along with a couple of other British athletes.
Grice has opted to move down to the 800 metres and both the 800m and the “Mile” are scheduled for the Friday evening session.
Seb Rodger from Eastbourne is scheduled to race in the 400m hurdles Saturday afternoon while
Rob Mullett will be facing Mo Farah, also on Saturday as he will be racing over 5,000 metres, without any barriers as there is not a men’s steeplechase.
Youth Development League.
It has not been a good season for Sussex Clubs in the Upper Age Group of the Youth Development League this season but Crawley have bucked the trend and travel to Norwich lying second in Premier 2.
As the top two teams are promoted to Premier 1 for next season they are comfortably placed to move up to the top Division.
In South West 1A both Brighton & Hove and Team Sussex (Lewes, East Grinstead and Haywards Heath) have struggled, are currently at the bottom of the League table and the bottom team will be relegated.
Much the same applies to North East one where Horsham Blue Stars are currently at the bottom but with two teams to be relegated the Blue Stars look set to make the drop.
In South West 2 Chichester are lying in fifth place but there is not any relegation from this division.
