Anning takes European Silver medal

Brighton & Hove’s Amber Anning returned home from the European Indoor Championships at Glasgow on Sunday with a splendid silver medal.

Racing in her 400m heat on Friday Anning was squeezed into third place in 53.26s and just missed a place in the semi-final but ran a pretty impressive senior international debut.

On Sunday she was drawn to run at number three in the 4 x 400 m relay team and ran a magnificent leg.  Holding second place, behind the Polish team and fending off a strong Italian runner to keep the British team in the silver medal position a position that local Glasgow girl Eilidh Doyle held to the finish.

Anning had a split time of 53.1s.

In the 1,500m final which Brighton Phoenix’s Robbie Fitzgibbon clocked 3:43.09s to place third in his heat and qualify for Sunday’s final where he finished up in eighth place in 3:47.08s

Welsh Junior International.

Competing for the English U20 team at the Junior international at Cardiff on Sunday Crawley’s Natasha Purchas shared third place in the pole vault with three vaulters dead heating on 3.65m.

Fellow Sussex Vaulter Jack Harris (Lewes) no heighted in the Men’s event.
