Sussex AA is saddened to report the passing of county athlete and official, Angela Morgan.
Angela, aged 63, died last week after a long battle with cancer.
Angela joined Eastbourne Rovers as an 11 year old and was ladies captain at 15. She competed in all events including relays to help the team, finally settling on the shot put and hammer with most success. Angela came 2nd in the first Sussex Hammer competition when it was introduced to ladies in 1996. Her name was then frequently in the top 3 as a master. This included travelling around the country and picking up medals at the British Masters Championships.
A stalwart of the Rovers, she carried out many positions on the committee, organising matches, coaching and officiating. She also enjoyed officiating at the Sussex Championships. She coached many Eastbourne athletes to claim medals at the county championships.
She competed for the club until 2019 and enjoyed the camaraderie of European and World Masters competitions with the most recent 8th place in the world championships held in Perth Australia 2016.
Angela was one of the leading forces in getting Eastbourne Rovers a new throwing cage which will be in place this year. The club can then continue the great work of the expert throws coach they have sadly lost.
