All To Run For – Sussex XC League Tables

Ardingly Showground will play host to the third Sussex AA Cross Country League races this Saturday.

Some athletes will be hoping to secure top individual spots, whilst others will be battling for team places.

As usual the day will begin with the under 11 races followed by the under 13s.

With 53 points, HYAC are currently topping the league table in the girls’ category closely being tracked by Brighton & Hove AC on 63. The battle is on for the third spot with just 13 points separating Crawley, Horsham and Phoenix.

Brighton & Hove are leading the boys’ with 35 points but not far behind is Crawley on 47, then there’s a little gap to Lewes on 87, Phoenix on 90 and Brighton & Hove B on 100.

Winner of both Goodwood and Glyndebourne, Harry Chapman (Lewes) will be hoping for the hat trick.

Isabella Buchanan is in a similar position in the under 15 girls. Her HY team is currently in second on 47, but only just as Crawley have 45 points. Brighton & Hove are third with 124.

The Eastbourne under 15 boys have a solid team lead with a current impressive low score of 15. Three of their athletes - George Armstrong Smith, Fin Lumber Fry and Byron Roberts - will also be aiming for individual medals at the end of the season.

In second place in the U15 boys’ league is Chichester on 48 and Brighton & Hove on 58.

With several top 10 finishers in both of the first two fixtures, Brighton & Hove under 17 men are sitting at the top of their league with just 22 points.

Behind them there are at least six teams that will be battling for the medals at the end of the season. These being Phoenix on 67, Crawley on 87, Chichester on 89, Lewes on 96, Brighton & Hove B on 104 and Eastbourne on 106.

In the under 17 women’s league, Eastbourne are dominating on 35 – 21 points clear of Crawley on 56, Chichester on 57 and Lewes on 62.

It is all to run for in the senior women’s division one with Chichester on 85, Brighton & Hove A on 97 and Lewes on 109. In division 2, Eastbourne are monopolizing the top two spots with 48 points and 190, followed by HY on 193.

Imogen Matthews could secure the individual league title if she competes on Saturday having won the first two races.

Andrew Green is in the same position in the senior men’s contest. His Brighton & Hove team are also leading the men’s division one league on 62 points – massively ahead of Lewes (240), Phoenix (263) and Brighton & Hove B (274).

Worthing head up division two on 306, then Eastbourne on 318, Lewes 446 and Chichester on 461.

In the new for 2024/25 age 35-50 division, HY top the women (41), ahead of Lewes A on 49, Lewes B 115, Chichester 116 and HY B on 119.

Brighton & Hove have a collective 23 so far in the men’s equivalent, Lewes 74, Phoenix 83 and Worthing 91.

Last but not least are the over 50s divisions.

In the women’s Brighton & Hove have 18, Haywards Heath Harriers 55, Eastbourne 122 and Chichester 126.

In the men’s Haywards Heath have 24 with Phoenix on 59 and Brighton & Hove A on 60.

The gun will go for the first race on Saturday at midday and currently weather is looking okay.
