There were few Sussex performers in action at the Muller Grand Prix at Glasgow on Saturday and indeed the best performance came from former Sussex and English Schools athlete Adelle Tracey from Guildford.
Tracey, who is now one of the leading British middle distance runners, was a regular member of Sussex School’s teams a decade ago, both over the country and particularly over 800 metres when she was at Midhurst Grammar when she won the English Schools senior title.
On Saturday she led the chasing pack behind Laura Muir in her unsuccessful attack on the World 1,000m record.
A strong international field, did not cause much problems to Muir but in a tight finish for second place Tracey, who had led the chasing group throughtout, had the edge clocking 2:37.96s which was her fastest ever indoor clocking.
She is expected to be challenging for a place in the British team over 800 metres for this summer’s Tokyo Olympic Games.
In the men’s 1,500m Brighton Phoenix’s George Mills notched up his personal best of 3:39.25s when placing sixth in a strong international field while club mate Archie Davis placed seventh in 3:44.48s.
In the 60m hurdles Cameron Fillery from Saltdean was one of three British hurdles in action but he could not match Andre Pozzi (Stratford) and David King (Plymouth) and after hitting a hurdle in mid-flight and finished in eighth place in 8.00s.
