A World Best tops a stunning indoor season for Amber Anning

18 March, 2023 By Melanie Anning

A 4x400m relay World Best for Brighton and Hove Athletic Club's Amber Anning ended a fine indoor season in which she also broke her county 400m record and moved to 3rd place on the UK All-time rankings, becoming the first Sussex woman to break 51 seconds indoors or out with her 50.68s clocking*.

Running in America for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks in the National Collegiate Championships (a turbo-charged equivalent of BUCS), Amber's relay team ran 3:21.75 to smash the previous time held by Russia by almost two seconds.

Amber's opening leg of 51.47s is the 5th fastest first leg ever run indoors. Her teammate Britton Wilson split a record 49.17s on the closing leg and ran a USA record of 49.48, the 2nd fastest all-time, to win the individual 400m. It is a World Best but not a World Record as the athletes come from three different countries.
