There were varying results across the second Youth Development League Upper Age Group fixtures on Sunday. Exams and the half term holiday meant that all Sussex teams were depleted.
In the South Premier fixture at Crawley the home side was fourth overall with 530 points, an improvement of one place from the first fixture. Here Blackheath & Bromley turned the tables on Shaftesbury winning with 791 points to 750.
Crawley AC's under 20, Grace Vans Agnew, knocked a second off her PB to win the 400m in 55.46s. Under 17 Ruby Jerges jumped an 11 centimetre PB to take the Long Jump with 5.59m and Poppy Oliver’s 43.97s 300mH was a season’s best and takes her to third in the UK u17 rankings.
In their South 1a fixture at Hillingdon, Brighton & Hove were third overall with 540 points behind Camberley & Woking’s 635 and South Bucks 552.5. However, they are second in the division at present.
Under 17 Torin Seagrove jumped a five centimetre PB for the High Jump win with 1.85m, Lois Dooley took nine seconds off her 1500m steeplechase time to secure an English Schools’ qualifier with 5:15.80. Rafe Brooks won the u20M Long Jump with 6.50m and Worthing’s u17, Freya Brennand, competing for Brighton, won the hammer with a PB of 46.28m.
Chichester Runners were away at Winchester in the Division 2b fixture. They were sixth with 131 points, behind winners Portsmouth & Winchester, a composite team who scored 621.5.
Team Sussex and Horsham Blue Star were competing at Mile End in the South 2c fixture. Team Sussex, a composite made up from East Grinstead AC, Eastbourne Rovers, Haywards Heath Harriers and Lewes AC.
