A splendid double from James Lasis highlighted the Crawley Club’s performance in the final Division two match of the season in the British Athletics League at Kingsmeadow on Saturday.
The Crawley team were not really in line for either promotion or relegation and although they fielded a strong team they were squeezed into fourth, of the eight competing Clubs, by the home team, Kingston Poly.
This however capped a pretty good season for the Crawley squad who were only promoted last season
Thames Valley Harriers won Saturday’s match and the League with 363/30 points ahead of Harrow 343/28 with the host club finishing third 329/21 while Crawley totalled 270 on Saturday and 20 points for a fine fourth in the League.
Nottingham placed fifth in the league, four league points further back.
The absence of Matt Lasis from the Crawley team meant that James, the younger of the Lasis brothers, won both the “A” hammer and discus throw with 54.54m and 47.18m respectively and he also contested shot putt and javelin throw.
Munroe Ritchie from Surrey gave great support in the hammer event winning the “B” throw with 50.48m.
James Hollins notched up a fine win in the long jump topping the seven metre mark to win with a leap of a PB of 7.20m.
There was another sterling performance from Max Thomas, who took second place in both the 800 and 1500m races clocking 1:54.00 and 3:56.56s respectively while Leigh Walker notched up a another second place by clearing 4.23m in the pole vault.
A further second place for a Sussex athlete was gained by Ollie Smith from Chichester who finished runner up in the 400m in 48.8s for the Harrow team.
