A busy weekend’s athletics

17 August, 2017 By Sussex AA

After a break of a couple of weeks it is back to normal with domestic athletics with Championship and Southern League matches on Saturday and British League matches on Sunday.

School and family Holidays are likely to affect the support of all the events but none-more-so than the South of England U15/17 championships which are being held at the Crystal Palace on both Saturday and Sunday. There are several leading Sussex athletes who could challenge for medals if they are not on holiday.

Both the Crawley and Brighton & Hove clubs will be hardest hit as they will have to field teams on both days and this a difficult at any time during season but in August is going to be particularly tough.

Crawley in Division One are lying 10th in the Southern League and travel to Milton Keynes while Brighton & Hove in Division Two West are 11th and will compete at Abingdon.

In Division Two Eastbourne, who are eighth, will be off to Hemel Hempstead.

In Division Three South West both 8th placed Chichester and 13th place Worthing will be competing at Portsmouth.

In Division Three East 4th placed Hastings and 6th placed Horsham will meet at Hastings while 7th placed Lewes/Haywards Heath and 12th placed East Grinstead compete in the same Division but have to travel to Dartford.

Sunday’s British League matches will see Crawley, who are currently 4th in Division two competing at Enfield while Brighton & Hove who are 5th in Division Four will be in action at Portsmouth.
