The 36th Brighton 10k race took place on Sunday in near perfect, cool and still conditions. Almost 1800 runners came out to support the iconic seafront race, which is back under the management of Brighton and Hove AC.
It was a good day for Brighton Phoenix. Beth Kidger ran 18 seconds faster than last year, to comfortably retain her title in 34:17. Second place went to Chloe Richardson, representing the Armed Forces (UKAF), who finished in 35:06 and Arena 80's Maisie Trafford was just two seconds off her PB with a swift 35:27 clocking.
In the mixed gender race Finn McNally (PHX), lead from the start, crossing the line in 30:23, his fastest 10k this year. McNally had warmed up the previous day with a 14:41 ParkRun on Hove Promenade. Michael Kallenburg (UKAF) was second in 30:44 and McNally's club mate, Archie Davis, had an excellent run for third, three places up on last year. Davis ran 31:14 in only his second race over the distance, to come in seven seconds ahead of pre-race favourite, Crawley's Paul Navesey.
Three years ago the race was cancelled due to high winds. Now that it is back and organised by Brighton and Hove AC, Race Manager Keith Donno hopes to build on the success of this year and attract more runners back to the event in 2020.
